The majority of my projects for my home are made for less than $10. Probably more so under $5. I have a strict budget and I got to stick to it. That is why I started Terrific Under Ten Tuesdays. It's been so much fun to see fellow bloggers link up their budget friendly projects and finds! It's very inspiring to show others that it's really not that hard to decorate on a budget.
Well my $10 or less project I'm going to share today is my stencil stair landing right off my kitchen.
I found this cool stencil at Hobby Lobby for around $8 with a coupon.
The stencil includes easy to follow instructions. After experimenting, I have a few tips of my own.
Using spray adhesive works a lot better than painter's tape to adhere the stencil to the wall. I had no problem with pealing the wall paint. It especially worked great when I had to get close to the ceiling and corners.
You can roll on, sponge on or rag on your paint. Using a small roller works the best and faster. If it's hard to roll in a tight spot like next to a corner/ceiling then I would use a sponge or stencil brush.
Also a little paint goes a long way. After you roll on some paint on your roller, roll out the excess on some rags. You don't want too much else the paint will creap under your stencil. I used a sample size of free paint that I got at my local salvage center and I had plenty left over.
Don't be afraid to take a risk. Try a fun stencil or wall treatment on just one wall in your home if you don't want to be too bold. If it doesn't turn out the way you like it then you can always paint over it.
I'm glad I went out of my comfort zone and tried something a little different. Now this is one of my favorite spots in my home.
