Buddies For Autistic Kids

I can't get over some of the wonderful, generous, loving people out in the world. Let me tell you about a special person that I have no affiliation with besides being the recipient of her generosity.

Mary Olson, a Scentsy Independent Consultant, has a facebook page called Buddies For Autistic Kids. I heard of her facebook page last summer just a few months after my son was diagnosed. Through her facebook page and party donations, she collects money to buy Scenty Buddies for Autistic children in the community and beyond.

What makes Scentsy Buddies so special? Many children with autism have sensory problems, including touch and smell. It is a lot better now, but when my son was first diagnosed, certain clothes and smells bothered him. These sensory problems could make him cry, whine, be naughty, run around and even scream. To this day, socks and the smell of hard boiled eggs bother him. :) There are a lot of scents that have a calming effect on him as well. That is why I think he has a fascination with smelling candles. :)

The Scentsy Buddies have different textures and scents that they have found autistic kids just love! The Scentsy Buddies are fragrant, cuddly companions. There is a lion, monkey, frog, elephant, pig, lamb, cat and dog. Each buddy features a zippered pocket in their back where a Scentsy Scent Pak is placed. There are 30 different Scentsy Scent Pak smells. The Scent Pak allows the Buddy to release a calming, wonderful fragrance. And they each have textured arms, legs and faces.

Just last month, my son received a Buddy for free thanks to the donation of 2 fabulous people! Taran just loves sweet Mollie the Monkey! I chose a lavender Scent Pak since that scent is associated with providing a wonderful calming affect.

When I see Taran resting and settling down in bed, Mollie is nestled right up to his nose.

What I would love to do this month since it is Autism Awareness Month is give back to Buddies for Autistic Kids! Many children are on the waiting list to receive a buddy just like Taran was. Day after day, families affected with autism are dealing with endless therapies, Dr. visits and bills...so something simple as a Buddy arriving at their door is a wonderful gift. And especially if it has a wonderful purpose dealing with sensory problems. Mollie the monkey was welcomed with open arms from this special little boy. She has become a favorite comfort toy.

For the month of April, all proceeds from Shaklee sales this month will be donated to the Buddies For Autistic Kids. This is in honor of my son and all the precious children that are affected with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

How to Safely Clean Your Carpet

Okay, I must admit that I have NOT deep cleaned my carpets for a very long time.

I have a few excuses...
a. it's time consuming LOL
 b. when I did clean the carpets the stains still didn't get out
c. I don't like cleaning my carpets with nasty chemical filled carpet cleaner

Well since starting using Shaklee products last year and cleaning this nasty spot in my son's room, I thought I would try this cleaning carpet job again. Plus I'm in the organizing and spring cleaning mood so I better do it now before I lose interest! LOL

I borrowed my mom's carpet cleaner machine. It's a Bissell and I'm sure she got it at Wal-Mart.

The first room that I tackled was the toy room. When we first moved into our house, the carpet in this room was full of stains and still is. Right before we moved in our furniture, I cleaned all the carpets and the stains never got out even with those fancy cleaners designed to clean carpets. So we have learned to live with the stains in this room plus the floor is usually covered with toys...

I went to my cleaning closet and pulled out my handy dandy Shaklee products. I love them because they have multi-uses. Really this is all I clean my house with!

This is what I used to clean my carpets:

1 Tbsp Basic H2 per gallon of water
1 Tbsp Basic G per gallon of water (to kill germs)

Adjust measurements if you tank is smaller or larger.

After I shampooed the carpet then I went over the carpet again with plain hot water. Then vacuum after the carpet is dry.

And here is the carpet after! It smells fresh and looks better and brighter! And those stains that I couldn't get out with traditional cleaners are gone!

Now let's look at the before and after again! Bye Bye stains!

My boys spend a lot of time in here, especially my youngest. It's great knowing that the cleaners I'm using are not harmful to them as they are constantly playing on the floor. What I am finding out and constantly surprised is how powerful Shaklee products are and do an even better job than the traditional cleaners the old me was used to!

Is it time to spring clean your carpets?

And don't forget about the great Free Shaklee Cinch Sampler Pack offer! When you join as Shaklee Member and purchase $70 or more (member price) you will receive the Cinch Sampler Pack for FREE! ($100 Retail Value)

Craft Room Peak

We have one room in our house that used to be a real embarrassment! It's a partially unfinished room in our basement that I mostly used for crafts. It is also the first room that we walk into our house from the garage. So we put up this door wall to divide the room for an unofficial mudroom entrance and to block off the craft mess. :)

The half painted floor was driving me nuts as well. Whenever I came home, it felt like a big DIY project slapping me in the face every time I would come home. Not a good feeling to greet me.

Behind the doors is my craft area. I used to do craft fairs for several years so this space was perfect to create. I no longer do craft fairs...so the room was becoming a dumping ground with thrift finds and extra decor. Very embarrassing. LOL

So a few weeks ago, I said enough was enough! We cleared the room out. Now my garage is full and my husband can't park in there now... :)

But the room looks so much better and bigger with everything removed and the door wall down. Our boys had fun playing around in the big open space!

Our boys were also our big helpers for the day. They helped us clean the walls and floor for painting and floor prep.

We cleaned everything with, what else...Basic H2! Love this stuff!

This room is going to now be a kid rec room and craft room. My son got to pick the color. Vivid Turquoise! Him and his brother are so excited for their new room!

 So here it is today!

We still have many more details to finish in the room. But this is what is keeping us busy these days. The floor is almost done, just a little to finish close to the walls.

Do you have a craft or kid room? Got any clever organizing ideas for all the supplies and toys?

Paintin'

This little boy turns 8 tomorrow! He is more than excited!

One of his birthday/Christmas gifts is a new room! We're turning our unfinished room in the basement into a kid rec room. This room will also be part of my craft room...but I did let my son pick out the color. You can't tell in this picture with the lighting and flash but he picked out Vivid Turquoise. It's very vivid, but he loves it and that's all that matters. :) I should be thankful it wasn't Construction Orange or Neon Green.

He was so happy to help us paint!

We got the room all painted and now we are working on the floor. So I'll keep you updated on the progress.

My son wore weekend clothes when he was painting, so it was okay to get a little paint on them.

Normally, I wouldn't of even tried to remove paint from clothes since my old Shout wouldn't even touch that kind of stain. But the clothes are still in great shape...

And my son wasn't the only one that got paint on his shirt...I got a big blotch on one of my favorite lounge shirts.

I spot treated the painted areas with Shaklee Basic H2 and then I soaked the clothes in some water with Shaklee Nature Bright overnight. And look at them now! No sign of paint!

We're saving money and saving our clothes using Shaklee!

I also wanted to share a testimonial from one of my customers about Shaklee's Basic H2

"When we were Christmas shopping I held my shopping list and a pen most of the time while in the stores. When I got home I noticed I had ink marks all over my shirt. When I was ready to wash my shirt I sprayed it with my normal stain remover spray and wash and rubbed a little and it looked the same. So I put Basic H2 on it and the ink disappeared almost instantly! I was amazed!"

Tackling the Laundry

Last month, I showed you how I Keep Organized with Laundry at our House. Today I'm going to share the products I use to keep my family safe and save money! We all like to do that right?

I have made the switch to the Shaklee Get Clean Laundry products. I have found my clothes are fresh and not as worn compared to other brands. Plus they are hypoallergenic-no nasty chemicals. My oldest son has a history of eczema so it works great for his sensitive skin, plus I don't have to separate his clothes from the rest of ours while I'm washing. Which saves this momma time!

These products are also safe for babies as well.

These are also tough on stains! I have 2 little boys, the stains are never ending!

So lets compare prices!

I went to my local Target to check out prices for Tide, which tends to be a common household detergent. The prices ranged from 10.99-$19.99 for Tide HE detergent.

 Low range.
Tide HE $10.99 52 loads = 21 cents per load

High Range.
Tide Total Care HE $19.99 for 61 loads=33 cents per load

$25.10 for 64 oz
I actually use 1/2 of it's recommended amount to use. So I get 128 loads out of a bottle! Which equals 19 cents per load.
I do one load of laundry at my house a day, so this one bottle would last me 4 months!

And the Fresh Laundry Concentrate (Powder) is even a better deal! It's a 14 lb container for $40.25 at 1/8 cup does 224 loads at 18 cents per load!
Which would equal over 7 months at my house!

You might ask 'What about homemade detergents?' I am quite thrifty, so yes I have tried them as well. I've made liquid and powder at home and they never seemed to get my clothes clean or make them smell "fresh".

Lets not forget about the Get Clean Soft Fabric Sheets. You can actually cut the dryer sheets in half to last twice as long. So 80 sheets will actually get you 160! Plus they are recyclable when you are done.

And the Nature Bright Laundry Booster and Stain remover is great on stains! You can even use it on carpets, upholstery, kitchen & bath surfaces, patio furniture and much more! It's safe to put in your carpet steam cleaner along with Basic H2 to get that carpet clean. My boys are constantly on the floor playing. It gives me piece of mind that I'm using products that are safe for my little boys...and hubby and I, too.

So do you have a favorite laundry detergent? Or is it time for a change?

I also had questions on how to purchase products from my Shaklee website. You can go directly to my website and purchase any product you like at the Regular Price.

There is also a Member Price. If you become a member of Shaklee, you receive 15% off the regular price for a lifetime! Plus you get an extra free bonus from me on your first purchase.

AND there is an excellent referral program for Members only! When you refer your friends and family to my shaklee site using your own personal code and they purchase $25 or more on their first purchase then you get $25 credit for your next purchase!

So the perks of being a member is great for your health and your pocket book!

Shaklee Saturday: Washing My Dishes

If you haven't checked out my other Shaklee Saturdays this month you can check them out here:

Today, I'm going to show you how effective the Shaklee Dishwashing products are so effective!

I have been more than pleased with Shaklee's Dishwasher Detergent! It comes in a 2 lb bag that you can get 48 loads out of!

Are you a Cascade fan?

Here is the cost breakdown of Cascade vs. Shaklee

Cascade Plus 75 oz. costs $5.97 and does 21 loads
28.4 cents per load of dishes

Get Clean Shaklee Dishwasher Detergent 32 oz. costs $9.50 and does 48 loads
19.8 cents per load of dishes

Nontoxic and SAFE
Biodegradable
Earth Friendly
Hypoallergenic
All Natural
High performance

It works so well, that I only use one scoop instead of the recommended 2 scoops, so I get 96 loads out of it! We run the dishwasher on a daily basis, so that is over 3 months for one bag. So depending on the softness of your water, you might get this as well. Price wise, that is 10 cents a load!

It leaves my dishes clean and shiny! With no yucky residue leftover like the other leading detergents I used to use.

The Get Clean Hand Dish Wash soap is great as well! Remember my carpet cleanup oops? This soap is so great it was removing ink out of my carpet! All you need is 2 small drops to add to your sink full of dishes! A little bit goes a long way!

Joining Shaklee has really changed my family's life! It's safe and so much easier and cost effective to clean!
